I know the
music will be a big part of the movie. Its almost a
Forest Gump I have been in the right place at the
right time so many times. I guess its a story of highs
and low's. Heres a few things you might not have
known.....
I started with
zero.....Created a small niche with The Cathouse, MTV VJ
for 5 years hosting Headbangers Ball,I was one of the
most popular VJ's at MTV and one of the most despised at
the same time( yes Axl helped me get the
MTV gig) I was the host of
Loveline, created a swimwear company.A
clothing company ( RPR) A Cathouse tour, another
club called Bordello. It seemed like everyone around me
was getting record deals and becoming superstars. I
remember the day my receptionist came in the
office ( Rachtman Enterprises) to tell me
he was going to call his band Blind Melon and I told him
that was the stupidest name ever ( Shannon
Hoon) . I threw great parties. My birthday party
had White Zombie, Pantera, Exodus,Rob Halford, Ice T,
Danzig, Suicidal Tendencies all play live. In all that
time although it seemed like everything was perfect I
had a really tough time with depression. ( What a
friggin idiot huh)Ya I had the booze and drug
problem pretty bad. I got sober in 1988 havent touched a
drop of anything since then Didja know that Yup Ive been
sober 17 years but I dont talk about it much.Still sober
still dont talk about it Oh yeah I went through the
round of baaad relationships. Did that stripper Pornstar
girlfriend thing for a while. I never dug it and still
to this day dont know why I went that route. A little
self sabatoge maybe. While at the peak of a talk radio
career. I punched another dj went to jail It made the
top news story in LA for 2 days and within a few short
months everything was gone. No really the houses cars
bikes you name it. I had zero. I had to get a job and
gave up on the Entertainment industry.. Maybe they gave
up on me. I moved to Huntington Beach and decided to
sell cars.. Truth. I sold VW's for about a year with a
shirt and tie ....A normal day was " Hey are you Riki
Rachtman?" Yes I am now lets go look at this Jetta. My
power was shut off I was broke and I had a job that was
very humbling. I went to work at a BMW dealership and
decided I would be the Entertainment and Sports Client
director or some made up title like that. There was a
woman at the dealership that had it out for
another salesperson. Woman A
tried to set me up with woman
B knowing that I would probably hook up with
woman B and move on to the next. Woman A didnt like
woman B...I had a past I guess. Well all went with
Woman A's plan. With the exception of I fell in love
with woman B. Woman B who will now be reffered to as Gayle. knew
nothing about who Riki Rachtman was. She didnt even know
I was covered in tattoos because she had only seen me in
a shirt and tie Woman A's plan
didnt work so well so after many complaints by her
of co-workers dating. Gayle( who had been in the car
business for over 10 years ) and I were fired. The
whole time I was doing the car thing I was trying to
find a way back in the medias eye but this time through
NASCAR something I had a passion for as much as rock n
roll. Gayle even told me I should focus on getting back
on the air.Through thick and thin she was very
supportive. She gave me confidence I gave her a new
often mispelled last nameTo jump ahead a few years. I
now host a nationally syndicated radio show called
Racing Rocks 100 stations and growing. Its going on 3
years.....the Cathouse name has never been stronger with
a new bar in the works, the movie of course and I have
another clothing line starting up. I have been doing a
lot of TV lately. Mostly VH1. I travel to 6 races a year
as a representative for Chevrolet talking to fans and
drivers up on stage. I love it and have even created a
fan base of kids 8-11 years old. How funny is that.
There are more rock things on the horizon Hey you
will just have to see the movie. ( I left out the best
and worst parts out) phew.....I guess its a story of
having nothing / having it all / losing it all/ getting
it back. I could be wrong maybe its a story about
